Students' Union Chapter Application

For an authorised officer of the students' union with which a think tank is affiliated. This application is what allows a think tank to become a Chapter, so that its members can receive Training Access Bursaries paid by your union from a ring-fenced account. It is not needed for a Think Tank Grant. It follows Schedule C of our Grant-Making Policy and tells us what your union is willing to do, and what approvals you need.

Part 1. The students' union
Charitable status Required

Officer dealing with this application:

Part 2. Holding and administering funds
Is the union willing to receive grants from the Trust and hold them as restricted funds in a designated account, applied solely for the purposes in the Funding Agreement? Required

Who authorises payments, how restricted funds are separated, and how they appear in your accounts.

Can the union pay bursaries to students' personal bank accounts by bank transfer, in instalments? Required
Part 3. Bursaries

Training Access Bursaries are assessed by the Trust's own two-person panel against published criteria. The Trust sends the union a list of eligible students and their rates; the union pays them from the restricted fund. The union is asked only to confirm a student's enrolment, award or role on request, with the student's consent. A union with the capacity to assess applications itself may choose to do so instead.

On request, and with the student's consent, will the union confirm a student's enrolment, any hardship or access award, and any role at the think tank? Required
Would the union's financial support, hardship or advice service prefer to assess bursary applications itself? (optional)
Part 4. Agreements and policies
Is the union willing to enter into the Trust's Funding Agreement, including the Data Sharing Agreement? Required
Part 5. Independence
Part 6. Declaration
